List your domain for sale

Point your domain at our server and it shows a "for sale" page with an offer form straight away. It's free to list.

1. Open your domain's DNS settings

Log in where you manage your domain (your registrar or DNS host, for example 1st Domains, Crazy Domains, GoDaddy or Cloudflare) and find the DNS records for the domain.

2. Add these two records

TypeHost / NameValue / Points to
A@114.23.118.192
CNAMEwwwyour domain without the www, e.g. example.co.nz

@ means the domain itself. Some providers want the host left blank instead.

Delete any other A, AAAA or CNAME records for @ and www, such as a parking page or an old website. If they stay, some visitors won't reach the sale page. Leave MX (email) records alone.

3. Wait for it to update

DNS changes usually take a few minutes, but can take up to 48 hours. Then open your domain in a browser: you should see "The domain name … is for sale!". The secure (https) version starts working on the first visit. Your domain joins our domains for sale list after its first visit.

How offers are handled

Create a free account and add your domain in the Sell tab of your buy/sell portal. Once we've checked you own it, offers come straight to your portal and by email. You can accept, decline or make a counter offer, and the buyer can do the same, until you agree. Neither side sees the other's details until then.

  • Listing is free. You only pay if your domain sells.
  • When you agree a price, you pay domainsales.nz a 20% commission on it by card. Then you and the buyer get each other's contact details to arrange payment and transfer the domain.
  • Prefer someone else to handle the money and transfer? Our escrow service is coming soon, for an additional fee.

If you haven't added your domain to the portal, offers made on its sale page come to the domainsales.nz team, and we'll try to contact you using the details in your domain's public WHOIS record.

To stop listing, point your DNS records somewhere else. Your domain drops off our list within a few hours.
